The people at the meeting were presented with a platter of snacks and a card from Deb Ryan on behalf of the teachers to thank the Parents' Club! Zoe also showed the resolution by the school board honoring PPC at last month's board meeting. Everyone felt very touched and honored by these recognitions.
Treasurer's Report
Bob reported that we netted $1774.71 from Winter Carnival, which is $275 better than the budget estimate. Bob provided a breakdown of revenues and expenses and noted that next year we need far more food, and almost 5 times as many themed hats in the lower price range. The cakewalk was hugely successful. Polly suggested that next year we could ask Owl's Nest if they would give cheaper pizzas if we offered to advertise, or if people who got a pizza at Winter Carnival recieved a coupon to go to Owl's Nest for a discounted slice. We discussed Maria D'Angelo and her amazing hard work and kindness.
Afterschool program - Bob estimated expenses for this on the budget, including the cost (beyond the grant award) for the basketball hoops, 4H, the Coordinator position, t-shirts for Science Club, and knitting club supplies. It comes to $1,055.45 in estimated expenses.

Principal's Update
Korean student teachers from Potsdam have come to our classrooms. They are certified teachers in South Korea and are getting MS degrees in the US. They came to the school's morning meeting last week and were impressed by the positive spirit of the meeting. They are here for 11 weeks on Mondays. Josh noted that our teachers no longer have to take lunch count in the morning anymore. Lunch is just open and what you see, you get. There are sandwhiches each day with a choice of meat, breads and cheese, chef salad, soup, plus the hot lunch.

- MIni-grants - Sunita discussed the 5 applications received and the presentations that were given by the applicants in the committee meeting just before the PPC meeting. She noted that each presenter was very sincere and passionate about her job. Josh noted the low number of applicants and wondered if it would be helpful to move this January application time to May to make it more of a grant that supports planning for the next school year. Josh suggested we ask teachers what they think the timing of these grant cycles in a survey.
- Winter Carnival Hats Sales - Selling hats by auditorium for the rest of this week. Josh will announce it, and Sunita will send out an email.
- Homework Haven schedule - March 5, May 7, June 4. In addition to Marianne Burdeau who has offered to cover HH for the rest of the year, Polly said she could do May or June? Sunita will put out an email to try to find a 2nd person for the other dates.
- Afterschool Program - This is going very well. Two certified staff are there in addition to the program teacher and the parent volunteers. Spanish is excellent. Pat Banker said that 2 volunteers and two paid staff helps a lot for the session with 1st and 2nd graders. Norma suggested a nametag/lanyard would help a lot at 4-H.
- Next Family Night - May 2 - give away leftover books from Winter Carnival!
- Box Tops - Time for PPC to start cutting. Chrissy is waiting to hear from the company when our Feb. deadline is.
- Teacher Appreciation Luncheon - May 10 - Kathleen looking for someone to co-chair that with her. She will start brainstorming themes.
Open Discussion
- Facebook - We will set up a facebook page.
- School Wide directory - Lori discussed again a desire to have a school-wide directory. At her old school they charged for the directory and they also took in advertising so it was a money-maker. Josh said it's important to do this carefully, always keeping privacy in mind. We should find out if other public schools in the state do this, and how they go about doing it..
- Kickstarter/Donors Choose/Adopt-a-Classroom - Sunita suggested one of these venues as a fundraiser for finishing up the rest of the Smart Boards. It could even be tax deductible because of our 501c3 status. We talked about approaching 7 businesses to buy these - finish 'em out appeal. National Grid, AMC, realtors, Stewarts, Price Chopper, etc. Zoe will put this on the June agenda.
- For future agendas - Report and feedback from all grade liaisons. Have Ruth Pino come and talk about removing ice cream and snacks from lunchroom options. Final push for SmartBoards.
