Petrova Parents’ Club
March 5, 2012, Elementary Library, 7:00pm
Attendees: Sunita Halasz, Christy Nier, Norma Woodruff, Jen Yousey, Zoe Smith, Bob Laba, Kathleen Silvius, Josh Dann, Michelle Davis, Becky LaDue, Jenn Small, Chrissy Hayden, Polly Kelting
Treasurer’s Report
Bob shared the revenues and expenses since our last meeting and noted that, at this point, it looks like we will end the year +$700 over what we budgeted. This positive balance will carry over into next year.
The group discussed SMART boards and Bob noted that PPC budgeted to buy three of these this year. Josh reported that there is a proposal to purchase a new math series which includes 6 SMART Boards for each elementary school in the District. Together with the PPC purchases, this will finally give all classrooms in the building a SMART board, plus one additional that could go to one of the special program rooms in the building. There are five special program rooms, and we will discussed that we should work to get all of them outfitted with SMART boards as part of the PPC budget in 2012-13.
Zoe noted that there is a period during the school year in the late winter where there are no PPC activities and perhaps for next year, we should consider doing a simple fundraiser during that time, such as a pancake breakfast (with coffee! And kids wear pajamas! And it’s maple syrup season!).
Principal’s Report
Josh talked about the upcoming Hospice Fundraiser in May and asked for PPC help for getting the word out and helping at different activities and events during that month.
BoxTops
Chrissy just submitted the most recent BoxTops collection and it came to $136 for the school. She listed all BoxTops revenue for this school year:
$539 (fall 2011)
+ $136 (Feb 2012)
+ $282 (from last June, which gets added into this year)
=$957 for this school year.
When we do the final collection this June 1st, the money will get put into next year’s budget. For the June collection, Josh suggested that we put something in the newspaper about it – tell them to bring BoxTops to Petrova. He also said right at the beginning of the year, we should have BoxTops collection dates on our PPC calendar on the website as well as the school calendar. The following dates were suggested: October 15, Febrary 15, and June 1.
Soup Labels
Michelle said that for Campbell's Soup Labels, we earn automatic points on qualifying purchases that use a Price Chopper card. Then, we get even more points on top of that when people submit the paper labels. The deadline to redeem points is the end of June. We have about 24,000 points.
Price Chopper Points
Josh says we have about 54,000 points in this program. He noticed that for about 100,000 points, you could get an iPad. He thought that perhaps we could have an incentive to reach 100,000 points and then award the iPad as part of the mini-grant program. He reported that Price Chopper points must be redeemed by the end of May.
AmeriGas Incentives for Schools
AmeriGas will give $.02/gallon (up to $2,000 per year) to people who affiliate their AmeriGas account with our school. We will soon receive detailed information about this program and will share it in the newsletter. In the meantime, if your home or business uses AmeriGas, you can bring a copy of an invoice from the company to school and we will link your account to our school.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
Kathleen told the group that the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon will be Thursday, May 10 and have an Italian theme. Lunch will be served from 10:50am-1pm. We will have three shifts of volunteers:
Next Meeting: Monday, April 16, 2012, 7pm, Elementary Library
